A group of medium-size hardy flowering shrubs that do well in urban and city gardens. A low maintenance, grow anywhere shrub that suits most soil types and conditions.

Planting and Growing Weigela

Plant outside in early autumn or spring. Container grown plants can be planted out at any reasonable time of year.

Grow in an open sunny position for the best flowers. Thrives in rich fertile soils, but it will succeed in almost any conditions, including chalky soils.

The nectar rich flowers attract a large number of pollinating insects. Making this an excellent choice for wildlife gardens.

Useful in a mixed shrubbery but can be grown as a decidious flowering hedge or part of a mixed hedge.

Taking Care of Weigela

Water thoroughly during dry weather until well established. Mulch with organic matter in spring and apply a general fertilizer suitable for shrubs.

Pruning Weigela

Prune annually by cutting back flowering stems and old wood, as soon as flowering has finished to keep the plant tidy. Note: Flowers grow on previous season's wood, so don't prune too late in the year.

Pests and Diseases

Generally disease free. Susceptible to attack by leaf and bud eelworms.

Propagating Weigela

Increase from softwood cuttings in early summer, semi-hardwood cuttings in summer or strike 10in (25cm) long hardwood cuttings of strong shoots in autumn.

Weigela All Summer Peach is new floriferous form of weigela, flowering from spring throughout the summer and into autumn, with pink-tipped peach blooms that burst from deep carmine buds above contrasting young leaves which are lightly toned with red.
