Over 40 acres of parkland and gardens dating back to the early 19-c. A series of narrow terraces and slopes descend from the castle into a small valley, providing spectacular views. On the opposite side of the valley is the Duchess's garden, locally known as 'Spring Gardens', with a good collection of early flowering shrubs, bulbs and ground-covering plants. Special events take place most weekends.

Formal Garden Area (FM)
University of Leicester Botanic Gardens, set in 16 acres of grounds, with a series of glasshouses containing tropical and temperate plants. Features a wide variety of garden styles, including formal gardens, arboretum, herb garden, herbaceous borders, rock and water gardens and woodland areas. Interesting collection of contemporary outdoor sculptures.
